Style Icon – Anjelica Huston

Continuing the theme of “Halloween Fabulous,” I want to discuss/gush about one of the marvelous, incredibly talented, versatile and gorgeous ladies I admire, Ms. Anjelica Huston.

Ridiculously good looking.

Ridiculously good looking.

Progeny of famous Hollywood director John Huston and ballerina Enrica (Ricki) Soma, Anjelica spent most of her early life in the United Kingdom (which explains a lot about how awesome she is), and moved Stateside after her mother’s early death to pursue a modeling career and dabble in acting.

She won her first Oscar for her supporting role in Prizzi’s Honor in 1985, and looked absolutely incredible doing it.

Her tumultuous relationship with (then) rising Hollywood star, Jack Nicholson lasted nearly 20 years, and though they never lived together or married, were the “Brangelina,” or some other, less obnoxious super well known couple, of today.

Pretty cool. She’s obviously the more glam of this pair.

He loves that bow tie, but I love her fur wrap and her cuff bracelet!

Again with said bow tie and aviators, but Anjelica is being effortlessly fabulous with a flower in her hair!

While I’m an enormous fan of all the above, my favorite Halloween-type roles of hers include her delightful performances as Morticia Addams in the 1991 film The Addams Family and the hilarious sequel Addams Family Values. Both of these movies do justice to the original Charles Addams cartoons with constant witty one-liners that you can almost translate into individual comic panels. I completely advocate a third installment, despite the sad loss of Raul Julia. Morticia was pretty much born to be a widow, anyway.

So goth fabulous.

That look!!!

That look!!! Refrained disdain? Romantic non-amusement??

She's crafty in all the ways!

AND her elegant/horrifying “Grand High Witch” in the film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches!

Amazing. The hat, the rings, the look on her face!!!

Hideous and loving it.

Obviously, she is/was not afraid of looking ugly, and much like Bette Davis, embraced the power of her appearance (good or bad) in order to bolster her performance and give depth and realness to fantastical characters. This dedication to her craft, along with her intelligence and talent, have ensured her legacy in Hollywood and her enduring status as a style icon.

So beautiful! Her features are so elegant I'm going to die.

Apparently she rewards her accomplishments with BANGLES! OMG.

Timeless. Sexy.

Timeless. So sexy. A simple LBD accented with classic shoes, minimal makeup and jewelry is ALWAYS a good decision.

Elegant, stylish, graceful, and possessing a slightly bohemian sensibility, Anjelica Huston is a unique and incredible woman. Her connections to strong, creative men only support her strength and intelligence. The acting roles she has chosen over the years (generally) have not only secured a place on the walk of fame, but (usually) come with some fabulous clothes and magnificent jewelry!

LOVE THIS SO MUCH!

I revel in her chameleon-like ability to epitomize iconic looks from so many different eras and styles. She radiates poise, strength, vulnerable aloofness (no idea how she manages this), elegance, whimsy and incredibly sexy self confidence. My interest and obsessions may have gone too far, though, considering I’m pretty sure I know what she smells like. (You better believe it’s on my Christmas wish list, along with ALL the Vaseline glass.) Severe creepy-ness aside, she is a fabulous woman and a true style icon. You should love her (almost) as much as I do!

What is your favorite Anjelica Huston role?? Did you know she and Jack were a couple? What are your thoughts on that? Did you know she was a model before she was an Oscar winning actress? Any pictures that are favorites I forgot to add?
